You’ll be amazed at how deliciously creamy this diary and oil-free Ranch Dressing is. It is packed with nutritious whole ingredients with all the richness of traditional ranch!
Is Ranch Dressing Vegan?
If you are a Ranch Dressing fan like I am you’ll know that most of the store-bought options are not vegan or oil-free.
The base of most ranch recipes will be mayo or sour cream, both of which include dairy or eggs. Not to mention all the other added preservatives they add to make the dressing safe to sit on the shelf for months or years at the time.
I don’t know about you but I’m on a mission to make sure I feed myself and my family foods they love that have the best health benefits for them.
There are days and periods when my family and I eat a vegan and oil-free diet so we need to have Ranch that we can enjoy on our salads or veggie wraps during those times.
Of course, there are some options for Vegan Ranch Dressings at the stores, but along with all those preservatives we talked about the companies often add some not-so-healthy fillers to make the flavors good without the dairy.
So knowing that there are ingredients in the bottled dressings that aren’t vegan or even good for us to consume was what sent me on a mission to create my ranch mix and learn to make fresh ranch dressing when we need it.
This way I know exactly what we are eating and how fresh it is! The best part, next to being better for us, is that this ranch mix and dressing is so simple and quick!
This ranch dressing is vegan and I’ve made it is also oil-free. Skipping the added oil makes it lower in fat and calories. But trust me, friends, this ranch dressing is so rich and creamy thanks to the cashews that you will not miss those added oils at all!
How To Make Vegan Oil-Free Ranch Dressing
You’ll be thrilled to know that this recipe post not only gives you the steps and instructions for making your bulk ranch season mix, but I will also walk you through using it to complete a cream ranch dressing.
It’s simple ingredients you can find at any grocery store and they are perfectly whole and nutritious ingredients.
The first step is to mix up the dry ranch seasoning to keep in your pantry. There are only four main ingredients with an optional 5th.
Here’s all you’ll need to make this Ranch Season Mix:
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Parsley
- Dill
- Salt (optional)
Once you have all these herbs gathered you will grab a container with a lid to mix and store them in. To complete your ranch dressing seasoning simply add all the dry herbs and spices to a container.
Place the lid on the container and shake very well until all herbs and spices are combined. This is it, you know have a shelf-stable ranch seasoning for any recipe.
How To Store Homemade Dry Ranch Seasoning
The great thing about this homemade ranch is that it is shelf-stable with preservatives. The only thing that would prevent this mix from lasting months and months if needed, is moisture.
Moisture is the enemy of dry spices and herbs because it can cause them to clump and eventually mold if left unattended.
So make sure you keep your ranch seasoning mix in a dry airtight container free from moisture. It should last in your pantry for a long time when stored this way.
How to Prepare The Cashews for Making Ranch
Of course, for a good ranch dressing, there is typically a creamy base ingredient and since we are going vegan and oil-free here I went with cashews.
If you are new to vegan recipes or dairy free using a crunch nut as the creamy base to a salad dressing may seem a little odd, or even impossible.
But with a little water and an overnight soak time in your fridge the cashew because soft and blendable. And no, before you ask, they don’t taste like almond butter.
The cashew nuts are so mild and have a natural fattiness to them that make the perfect base when you soak them and blend them with plant-based milk.
All you have to do is drain the water from the cashews you soaked, toss them in your high-speed blender, add the plant-based milk, and that delicious Ranch Seasoning Mix and you have a delicious salad dressing.
You can follow the recipe below in the card, but just know it is best to taste as you go so you can adapt the flavors to your desired taste.
So don’t be afraid to take a chance and make this Vegan Oil Free Ranch Dressing and play around with the recipe to make it your own!
How Long Will This Vegan Oil-Free Ranch Last In The Fridge
This cashew ranch will need to be stored in a jar with an airtight lid in the refrigerator. Make sure to wipe down the rim of your jar after each use to avoid any contaminants or mold.
As long as you store this dressing in a jar with a tight lid it will last in your fridge for about one to two weeks. As the ranch sits it will start to break down some if you leave it too long, so just try to consume it all within that 8 to 10 days.
This will ensure you are using your dressing up while it is still in its prime freshness.

How To Make Vegan Oil-Free Ranch Nut Free
If you or someone in your family has a nut allergy or if you just do not want to use cashews you can opt to go a different route for this ranch recipe.
Simply follow the recipe as is to mix up your dry ranch seasoning mix then add one cup of plant-based yogurt to a bowl.
Next mix in the two tablespoons of ranch dressing mix and taste. Lastly, you can add more seasoning if desired or even a little plant-based milk if you want to thin it out some.
Just make sure when you are grabbing your plant-based yogurt of choice you buy the plain and not a flavored option. I’m pretty sure ranch strawberry yogurt wouldn’t be a home run, ha!
