Low Carb Slow Cooker and Instant Pot Meals

December 1, 2022

This post is all about the ease and convenience of cooking a meal in Slow Cookers and Instant Pots. Each recipe is gluten-free, low-carb, and so delicious. From Main dishes to side dishes you’ll surely find something to add to your meal plan.

A collage of four recipes. From top left to bottom right they are sausage pasta, beef and mushrooms, salad chicken, and steak.

In this amazing collection, You’ll find some of the best low-carb and gluten-free recipes that are made in either a slow cooker (crock pot) or the Instant Pot.

You’ll find recipes for proteins like chicken and beef, some yummy one-pot dinners, soups, and even some desserts.

Cooking food in either the Slow Cooker or Instant Pot will be your favorite method thanks to all these healthy recipes.

Do you have a favorite recipe you cook in your slow cooker/crockpot? Or are you more of an Instant Pot kind of person?

Let me know in the comments if you use one or both of these cooking methods and if so what are your favorite things to cook in them?

What Is The Difference Between Slow Cookers vs. Instant Pots?

I’ve had many people that were still on the fence ask me about this subject.

Instant Pots are very good for saving time and for times when you totally forgot to thaw the roast and need dinner quickly!

With these pots, foods that would otherwise take ages to cook, like grains or those tough cuts of meat like a roast, can be made much faster, in say an hour or so depending on the size of the meat.

The Instant Pot also has a slow cooker function, but to be honest, it is my least favorite function. The heat from the pot only comes from the bottom so dishes that need to be slow-cooked don’t always get cooked as well as they do in an actually slow cooker.

I’ve even had some items, like my Slow Cooker Monkey Bread, give me the “burn” notice when I tested it in my Instant Pot but come out perfectly in my slow cooker.

The heat from a slow cooker is equally spread around the sides and the bottom, making it in my opinion, a much better option for meals and recipes that need a steady slow heat.

Most slow cookers will only have a high and low setting and then an option to choose your cooking times in increments of  4, 6. 8, and 10 hours.

So this means you’ll have to keep in mind what time you are planning on dinner and take into consideration those long cook times.

Basically, when choosing between a slow cooker and an electric pressure cooker, like the Instant Pot, it boils down to figuring out what functions and cooking times will suit you best in your kitchen.

To me, both appliances have a place and are useful for preparing meals and I use them each many times a week all year long.

Are Instant Pots and pressure cookers the same or different?

If you are new to the Instant Pot, you may be wondering if there is a difference between the electric pressure cookers like Instant Pot and the standard pressure cookers on the market.

Many people ask “What’s the difference and which one is right for me?” So I thought we’d take a quick look at their differences and compare them and their uses.

Instant Pot is actually just a brand name for an electric multicooker. It is basically an electric pressure cooker that uses steam that is trapped inside to build pressure that cooks food extremely quickly.

Instant Pots, as well as other brands out there, come in many different models these days. Some are more basic and have some main functions like pressure cookers, slow cook, rice, sauté, a steam function, and warm.

While the more expensive models out could have up to ten functions including some fancier ones for making yogurt, eggs, and even cakes!

The electric pressure cooker is the more advanced version of the regular stovetop pressure cooker. Instead of placing it over the stove to generate heat, the electric pressure cooker uses its own internal heating source to come to a boil.

This means that the heat source and all the added functions on the electric pressure cookers are the main differences between the two pressure cookers.

I don’t see the size of slow cooker you use. Esp for the dump chili.

Hi Bri, I have both a 6 qt and an 8 qt Instant Pot and have made all my recipes in both. My slow cooker is a 7 quart size. However, on some of the recipes I link in this post you will have to look in the posts as they below to other bloggers that have let me include their recipe here for my readers so I’m not sure what sizes they use. But I bet 6-8 quart Instant Pot would work for most of the Instant Pot recipes and the 7 qt slow cooker I have is large so it would work great for most also. I hope this help. 🙂
