About the Book:
My Personal Review:
This was my first book to read by this author. Overall I enjoy the book but it did have a slow start for me in the beginning. I felt like the portion of the story from the first chapter until they arrived at their sugar plantation, which was a few chapters, just didn’t hold my attention well. I wanted to enjoy this book so I kept reading.
Thankfully, after the first few chapters, I thought it picked up nicely and continued to hold my interest for the remainder of the book. So I am thankful that I kept reading and I can honestly say that the rest of the story made up for this slow start.
The author includes some tough topics in this book, like slavery, cruelties, death, and prejudices against women. These are all subjects that were prominent during the time period in which this book takes place. While these topics can be hard to broach and made me hurt for those involved, I think the author did a good job tackling these subjects.
I believe this book is the fist of a series, so I am interested in seeing where the story goes from here with the Banning Sisters if there is a book two. If you enjoy historical fiction then be sure to check out this book and more reviews from other readers here.
