How to Make Hot Cocoa Mix at Home?
If you are a fan of hot cocoa mixes, then you’ll be thrilled to know that you can make a simple but delicious homemade version with only a few ingredients.
I love making this hot cocoa mix and keeping it in my pantry all winter long. With only four ingredients you will have the perfect creamy cup of rich hot cocoa.
All of the ingredients are basic ingredients found at all grocery stores and they are relatively inexpensive.
Once you make your own Instant Hot Cocoa Mix you’ll never want to go bake to those little store-bought packets!
How To Store Home Made Instant Hot Cocoa Mix
Once you have your hot cocoa mix all combined you’ll want to store it in an airtight container. I like to store mine in mason jars with lids but any container with a lid will work as long as it is safe from moisture.
If the mix gets any moisture it will begin to clump on you and you don’t want that. It could also cause mold in the coca mix since there is a milk product in the mix.
This mix will last serval months in your pantry as long as you store it correctly. I usually mix up a big batch every few months or as needed.
How To Use Your Instant Hot Cocoa Mix
When you are ready to serve or enjoy your hot cocoa mix you just need to heat some water or milk up to use with your mix.
I typically use water since I use whole milk powder in my mix, but if you want an even more decadent hot chocolate you can use warm milk for your base instead of water!
To mix up your Instant Hot Cocoa pour your hot liquid of choice into a mug and and mix in your cocoa mix.
How much you use will depend on the size of your mug. I like to use about a 1/3 cup of the mixture if you are using an 8 to 10-ounce mug. This will make it very rich and creamy, but you can use less if desired.
Instant Hot Cocoa Mix
This easy Instant Hot Cocoa Mix is super tasty and a great way to save money by making your mix at home for your pantry. Creamy and chocolatey hot cocoa in seconds!
Ingredients
- 2 cups Confectioners' Sugar
- 1 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 2 cups Powdered Whole Milk (or nonfat if your prefer)
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
Optional Ingredient
- 1 cup of mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Add all of the dry ingredients into a Food processor and mix until well combined and there are no lumps. You can do this by hand in a very large bowl as well if you don't have a food processor.
- If you would like to add the optional mini chocolate chips you could add them to the food processor before you blend your mix. If doing it by hand, then just mix them into your combined mix.
- Store your Instant Hot Cocoa Mix in an airtight container. The mix will last a couple of months on your pantry shelf.
- Tip: As a guideline, 1/3 cup of cocoa mix and 8 to 10 ounces of hot water is the right amount for me to enjoy in one serving. But you may like your cocoa stronger or weaker, so play around with your measurements.
- I like to put the hot cocoa mix in the cup add the hot liquid on top, and stir, to not get any lumps. Then top with dehydrated marshmallows (see the blog post for how you do these treats!) Enjoy
