These crispy Garlic Chili Wings are the perfect appetizer or nightly dinner. They are so flavorful and the crispy skins will have you deleted. This recipe can be cooked in an Air Fryer or the oven so I’ve included directions for both in the blog post.
These Garlic Chili Wings are the perfect combination of mildly spicy and sweet. Marinated in a chili and garlic mixture then baked to a crispy perfection makes these wings a wing lovers touch down.
Like many of my favorite recipes here on the blog, these wings have a delicious Asian flare with an added kick of heat.
While they can be spicy from the chili peppers. But if you are not a spicy fan, don’t write this recipe off, because no matter if you like no spice, mild spice, or super spicy these wings are easily adapted to your taste but add more chili peppers or less.
My boys and I love chicken wings, you guys! I don’t think we have ever really met a wing we didn’t enjoy, The possibilities of flavors we have tried are endless and we have loved them all.
There’s been spicy wings, crispy fried wings, sticky sweet wings, and smoked wings, okay I think you get the picture right, we have tried a ton of wing recipes and each combination is always our new favorite…well until the next flavor comes along of course.
How about you guys? What’s your favorite style and flavor of wings? Hot or Mild, bone-in or boneless?
There are so many restaurants these days that have wings on the menu but sometimes they can be a little pricey and then there’s the chance of eating some ingredients that are exactly on our diet plan, like hidden sugars and carbs.
So we love to make our own versions at home, and these Garlic Chili Wings are amazing. They are so easy and they can be more budget-friendly than eating your favorite wings out. Bonus too. there are no hidden ingredients.

Making the Garlic Chili Wings
These Garlic Chili wings come together so quickly, with no complicated steps or long processes. To get started simply mix up the ingredients for the marinade, no mixer or blender is needed it is just that easy!
The next step involves placing the wings in a large plastic bag and adding half of the marinade. You can find the recipe for the marinade in the recipe card below.
This is the step that makes the flavor so magical in these wings. While they sit in the chili garlic marinade they soak up all the wonderful Asian-inspired flavors of the garlic chili sauce before baking.
But, don’t forget to reserve the other half of the marinade because you will need it for the end step.
After the marinade process, it just gets easier from there. The last two steps are as simple as baking the wings until they are nice and crispy and then tossing them in the remaining marinade that you reserved earlier.
That’s it, they are ready to serve just like that, but if you want your wings to be over the top good, I highly recommend placing them back under a broiler after tossing them in the sauce.
This extra step works wonders and gives you not only that crispy skin but also caramelizes that chili garlic sauce which will just blow your taste buds away!
I highly recommend you take the time to broil the wings for a few minutes after tossing them if you bake them in the oven.
It adds that extra pop of flavor and who doesn’t love more flavor, right? If you are a wing fan like myself and my family then give me these wings. Then let me know how you like your wings, spicy or mild?
How To Make These Garlic Chili Wings In The Air Fryer
If you have an air fryer you can totally cook these wings that way and they come out super yummy with flavorful crispy skin. There’s no need to add any extra oil to the wings before cooking.
After marinating, the wings go straight into the air fryer in a single layer. Depending on how large your air fryer is you may have to do several batches of these wings.
You can still choose to baste the wings during the cooking process as you do in the oven-baked version, but I usually skip that step when using the air fryer.
If you choose not to baste them with the other half of the sauce you can reduce it on the stovetop using a dipping sauce after the wings are cooked, or you can cut the marinade recipe in half and use it solely to soak the wings in before cooking.
I like to cook the wings for 20 minutes at a moderate temperature like 350 to 375 degrees, then crank up the temperature to around 425ยบF in the last 10 to 15 minutes to really crisp them up.
I find that I don’t always have to flip my wings since I have a larger air fryer (oven type) so you may not need to either, however, if you want to be really sure they are crispy on both sides, simply flip them once during the last 15 minutes of cooking.

Crispy chicken wings glazed with a tangy Chili Garlic sauce.
Ingredients
Garlic Chili Marinade
- 2/3 cup of Soy Sauce or Liquid Aminos
- 1/4 cup of coconut oil
- 3 Tbsp of lemon juice
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 2 Tbsp Ginger Juice*
- 1 Tblsp THM Super Sweet, or Erythritol Blend
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 green chili chopped, optional
Chicken
- 3 lbs of wings or drummettes
Instructions
- Mix all the marinade ingredients together and pour half of it into a large resealable bag, and reserve the remaining half for later.
- Add the wing portions into the bag with the marinade then seal.
- Shake the bag well making sure to cover all the wings with the marinade and let it chill in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours for great flavor or overnight would be even better. The longer they sit in the marinade the better the flavors will be.
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and line a couple of baking sheets with foil and spray with cooking spray for easy cleanup.
- Bake the wings at 400 for 40 minutes, or until the skin is crispy.
- Next, take the wings out and toss them in the remaining half of the Garlic Chili marinade and return them to the baking sheets.
- Lastly, turn the oven to broil and let the wings brown while the skin gets crispy. Watch closely to avoid burning the wings.
- Flip once and broil the other side until the wings reach your desired crispiness.
- Serve hot with a nonstarchy side dish or as an appetizer at your next party.
- For air fryer cooking instructions see the blog post right above the recipe card for this step by step process.

There is an asterisk * by the item in the recipe “ginger juice,” but I have not been able to find anything in this post explaining the ginger juice asterisk. What am I missing? Can I buy ginger juice or do I need to make it? Thanks!
Keri Bucci says
In the notes, it just mentions that if you don’t have the ginger juice you can sub in 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger depending on how strong you want them. Hope that helps.

I know this is an odd question but the green chili chopped puzzles me. I am wondering if it’s like a jalapeno or different. I have seen green chili peppers in a can but I don’t recall seeing them at the local grocery store. ????
Keri Bucci says
Hi Debbie, yes sorry the green chili is like a jalapeno. In fact, you can use those if you prefer. Since there are so many chili peppers out there I just used the term loosely. The ones I use are called Serano Chilis. It will just depend on how spicy you want it to which chili pepper to use. I hope that helps. ๐
