These Dill Pickle Wings are the best thing since sliced bread ya’ll! Lots of juicy chicken wings and drummers baked to a crispy perfection then tossed in a kick of flavor from a dill pickle sauce!
Dill Pickle Everything!
I’m all about pickles, I mean pickles go with everything in my opinion. This recipe is inspired by a local restaurant in our town.
All they serve is wings and man do they do them well! I’ve tried many of his flavors and my all-time favorites are his Parmesan Garlic and Dill Pickle.
I decided to try the flavor combination at home because I love them so much and want to have the option to control all the ingredients on my chicken wings.
Man did they turn out great and I’m ready to share them here with all my pickle-loving readers!
How To Make Saucy Dill Pickle Wings
There are three types of wings that most restaurants in our area serve, those three are fried, dry-rubbed, and saucy! Which type do you prefer?
I’m a huge fan of the saucy wings that are not breaded! This is a great way to have crispy flavorful wings without the extra carbs from the breading.
Trust me you will not miss breaded or dry rub wings when you dig into these wings, my friend!
Here’s What You’ll need Dill Pickle Wing Sauce:
- real mayo
- dill pickle juice
- dry dill
- dry parsley
- dill pickle powder
- black pepper
With these basic ingredients, you will have the most delicious flavor punch you’ve ever had on wings. It’s so simple to mix up too.
Just add everything into a large mixing bowl and add in all the ingredients. Stir the mixture until it is all combined and chill it in the fridge until your crispy chicken wings are ready to be tossed in this deliciousness!
If you love dill pickle flavor as much as I do you could also mix up a batch of my Best Dill Pickle Ranch and toss your wings in that as well. It’s amazing on these wings and on your favorite side salad too.
How to Get Crispy Chicken Wings in The Oven
Baked chicken wings are a popular alternative to deep frying, but most people mention that the wings are never quite crispy enough.
However, there are a couple things you can do to ensure you have crispy chicken wings when you bake them in the oven.
One method I’ve recently read about and have yet to try is the parboiling method. Some food writers say that if you boil the wings a little before baking them it will render out any excess fat making it easier to crisp them up in the oven.
If you want to read more about that method you can check out this blogger’s wing recipe and give it a try on these Dill Pickle Wings!
I take a much simpler route because I’m usually in a hurry to get food on the table for my family. Those guys can get hangry!
So I make sure that my cleaned wings are nice and dry by patting them down with paper towels before I season them and place them on my baking sheet.
I sometimes add a rack to my baking sheet so that it keeps the wings out of all the rendered fat that will cook out. This way the wings are still “dry” and the skins will crisp up more easily.
I also cook my wings at a high temperature and flip them halfway through to make sure both sides are nice and crispy as well.
If you don’t have a rack for your baking sheet, no worries use parchment paper and you can remove them from the oven during coking and carefully drain off all the excess fat and liquid that has cooked out of the wings.
Then place them back in the oven to finish crisping up! Some also enjoy cooking their wings in an air fryer so if that is your preference then go for it.
I never have enough room to do all the wings I need in my smaller air fryer because my family can throw down on some chicken wings so I always have to make plenty!
Dry Rub Dill Pickle Wings
For those that prefer the dry rub wings instead of this saucey girl, don’t worry you can still enjoy these Dill Pickle Wings!
To make a dry version of these dill pickle wings I suggest you take the time to brine your wing pieces in pickle juice for at least an hour but if you are in a hurry at least bring them for 30 minutes.
This will give the wings so much pickle flavor and make them super tender once you’ve brined them follow my advice and pat them completely dry with some paper towels before you cook them.
Remember, we want super crispy skin so you want all that pickle juice of the wings so they don’t steam in the oven instead of roast!
Once your wings are baked to crispy perfection take them out and place them into a large bowl and sprinkle on this delicious Dill Pickle Powder!
You can be as generous as you would like with the pickle flavor make sure you do it immediately out of the oven so the pickle flavor will stick to the wings!
