Eating low-carb doesn’t mean you have to eat boringly. We can still enjoy our favorite foods like pizza by making a few simple adjustments to the recipes.
Can You Have Pizza On A Low Carb, THM, Or Keto Diet?
I’ve always been a huge fan of pizza, and could easily eat it several times a week and never get tired of it.
There is just something about all that gooey cheese, yummy sauce, and veggies pilled high on a bready crust that makes this girl happy.
Of course, traditional pizza doesn’t fit into my low-carb lifestyle anymore because all the carbs combined with fats are not the ideal combo for weight loss.
So that had me bummer for a while but not for long since you can totally have pizza on your low-carb journey.
Pizza is one of these that is easily modified so that means with just a swap or two you can be enjoying your pizza again while still working on your health and weight loss.
Most pizza toppings are low carb if you think about it, sure there are some like pineapple that isn’t ideal, but who would miss that on pizza?
Not me that’s for sure, I’m fine with cheese, nonstarchy veggies, and meat on my pizza!
With the toppings already low-carb for the most part that just leaves the crust to deal with and there are a ton of low-carb options for crusts out there these days.
These choices of crust range from the widely known fat head dough all the way down to a crust made of chicken or cauliflower.
So check out all the recipes in the post to see what types of crusts you’ll find and don’t be scared to try each type of crust before you find your favorite!
How To Choose The Best Toppings For Your Low-Carb Pizzas
Elevate your pizzas to fit your taste buds by combining some or all of these delicious low-carb ingredients for a perfect pizza night at home without all the carbs.
- Meat: My husband and son are huge fans of meat on their pizza. Some of their favorite meats I’ve used on pizza are pepperoni, of course, ham, sausage, bacon, shredded chicken, ground beef, and Italian sausage. I’ve actually tried and enjoyed a seafood pizza as well, so the possibilities are all over the place when it comes to meats!
- Low Sugar Red Pizza Sauce: when it comes to pizza sauce the carbs can really start to add up. Since tomatoes are naturally higher in sugar it is crucial to find a sauce that doesn’t have additional sugars added in. One of my favorite store-bought brands is Raos. It has been the lowest in carbs that I’ve been able to find so far although it is definitely on the pricey side when compared to other pizza sauces.
- White Pizza Sauce: I often opt for a white sauce as the base of my pizza just because I love how creamy it makes the pizza. If you prefer a white sauce or want to give it a try then grab your favorite lower-carb alfredo sauce and use it in place of the traditional tomato-based sauces. It is super simple to throw a very low-carb alfredo sauce together at home. This is a great way to keep carbs lower than jarred sauces.
- Cheese: When it comes to cheese, you don’t have to stick just to the traditional mozzarella if you want to get adventures. I’ve had pizzas with fresh mozzarella, shredded cheddar, goat cheese, blue cheese, feta cheese, parmesan, and even vegan cheese that I’ve loved in the past. So don’t be afraid to give new cheeses a try.
- Vegetables: Choosing the right veggies for your pizza will just come down to your personal preference of tastes. There are a ton of tasty ones that are okay to use on low-carb diets such as green or black olives, sliced mushrooms, chopped onions, artichoke hearts, colorful bell peppers, and hearts of palm. If you are one that loves spice then jazz your pizza up with some jalapeños or your favorite chili peppers.
