Almond flour is a gluten free, low-carb flour. It is also called almond meal. It is a great flour to use as it is grain-free, low-carb and even paleo. Almond flour is really just ground almonds until it is flour-like. Saying that almond flour is just ground almonds, it has the same nutritional value as regular almonds.
One cup of almond flour is about 90 whole almonds. Almond flour is very high in Vitamin E and in fact, 1 cup of almond flour is over 100% of the daily requirement of vitamin E! Remember, that’s only 1 cup! Almond flour is low in carbs and high in fat as well, which makes it great for the keto and low-carb diet.
Outside of the low-carb & keto diet
Almond is also used in some dishes that are not keto or low-carb. Macaroons are a great example. Many have made gluten free versions of desserts such as cookies and used almond flour as the wheat flour substitute, but still add sugar as well.
